A free Google Maps rank checker with no sign-up

Gridrank's free rank checker runs a 5×5 geo-grid scan of any Google Business Profile with no account, no email and no card. It searches Google Maps for your keyword from 25 points around the business and shows your rank at each one, in about a minute. The other grid tools we checked on 20 October 2026 also give something away, as free credits or a trial, but each asks you to create an account first.

What the free check does

  1. Find the business by name. It can be yours, a client's or a competitor's, because rankings are public and you don't log in to the profile.
  2. Type the keyword your customers search, and pick the distance between points, from 0.5 km for a dense city to 5 km for a rural area.
  3. Gridrank runs 25 live Google Maps searches, one from each point, and records the top 20 results at every one.

You get a heatmap of your rank across the grid, your average rank, your top-3 share and how many points you appear at all. Click any pin to see the top 3 businesses Google returned there, with its coordinates. The report also lists the competitors that hold the top 3 most often, and gives you a link you can send to someone. Searches can run in United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.

The limits

  • 3 scans a day per visitor. Free scans also share one daily budget, and on a busy day the checker can reach capacity before you use all 3.
  • 5×5 only. Each point is a live search we pay for, so the free grid stays small. Paid plans go up to 9×9.
  • One scan, no tracking. A free check runs once and never rescans. A free account keeps 1 tracked keyword with its history and gives 5 scans a month, with an email address and no card.

Paid plans start at $19 a month. Paid plans are not open yet, so the pricing page takes waitlist sign-ups. They scan every tracked keyword each week and email you when one moves. See pricing.

What other grid tools ask for first

Each of these tools offers a free start, and none needs a card. All of them need an account before the first scan.

Free terms checked on 20 October 2026. Prices checked on 18 and 20 October 2026, on each vendor's own page: Local Falcon pricing, Whitespark Local Ranking Grids, BrightLocal Local Search Grid, LeadSnap pricing. Scan counts are our arithmetic, at 25 credits per 5×5 scan.

A trial gives you more than a one-off scan. BrightLocal says its trial lets you "explore the full power of BrightLocal", and Whitespark's 200 credits are "to enjoy the full Local Ranking Grids experience", a tool that goes up to 15×15 grids. If you already know you want to track a business over time, starting a trial is a fair choice. If you want to see the map before deciding anything, the free check is quicker.

Free single-point checks vs a free grid

Some free checkers show your rank from one location, the way a single search on your phone does. That hides how much your rank moves across town. The scan above ranged from #1 at the centre to outside the top 20 at 2 of 25 points. Read why your ranking changes by location for the reasons, and share of local voice for how to read top-3 share.

Questions people ask

Is the Google Maps rank checker really free?

Yes. The checker at gridrank.app/check runs a 5×5 geo-grid scan with no account, no email and no card. Each visitor can run 3 a day. Free scans also share one daily budget, so on a busy day the checker can reach capacity early.

Do I need to log in to my Google Business Profile?

No. The checker finds the listing by name, and rankings are public, so it works for any business, including a competitor or a prospect.

What does a free scan show?

Your rank at each of the 25 points, from live Google Maps searches that record the top 20 results. You also get average rank, top-3 share and coverage, the top 3 businesses at every pin, the competitors that hold the top 3 most often, and a report link you can send to someone.

What does a free account add?

1 tracked keyword and 5 scans a month on grids up to 5×5, with the scan history kept. It needs an email address and no card. Weekly automatic scans and bigger grids come with the paid plans.

Why is the free grid 5×5?

Each point is a live Google Maps search that Gridrank pays for, so a 5×5 scan is 25 searches. That is enough to see whether you rank across your area or only near your door. Paid plans go up to 9×9.
